LYRICS

The Child and the Sage

Subrata

Adapted from Ramakrishna’s Vision of Vivekananda before they met

One day, my mind was soaring

Along a lighted path

‘Round me, the gods and angels

Smiled as I sailed past

Ascending higher-- and higher

And high----higher.

Reaching, a light-ed ceiling

Through which my mind did shoot

Bursting be-yond all limits

To the Absolute

Ascending higher and higher

And high----higher.

(Instrumental Interlude)

Seven sages sat before me

Calm, pure, free

From the light a child rose softly

Love, bright, sweet

Climbing in the lap, of the sage above

With a tender voice the child sang out with love

Come with me

Down to Earth

(Instrumental Interlude)

Rising from meditation and

With the child in hand

Coming to earth and spreading

Light throughout the land

They lead us higher and higher

And high----higher.

Leading us higher and higher

And high----higher.

Leading us higher and higher

And high----higher.

Dance Shiva Dance

Subrata

As the planet rotates, the sun appears to rise

Warming up the Earth and lighting up the skies

As the plan-et rotates, the Sun appears to sink

Blue and green and purple, yellow red and pink

Dance Shiva dance, Dance Shiva dance

Dance, dance, Shiva dance

As the planet rotates, the sun appears to rise

Creatures that are dreaming, open up their eyes

Looking out the windows, of their eyes and ears

Chasing their desires, running from their fears

Dance Shiva dance, Dance Shiva dance

Dance, dance, Shiva dance

The crescent moon’s reflected, in a placid pond

Appearing in the water, being far be-yond

The beauty of the moment, captivates the mind

In this qui-et stillness there is no space or time

There is Shiva’s face, there is Shiva’s face

There is Shiva’s face

Coming out of no-where, blows a gentle breeze

Feel it on the cheek now, hear it in the trees

The moon is still reflected, the moon is still beyond

The moon is gold-en waves that shimmer on the pond

Dance Shiva dance, Dance Shiva dance

Dance, dance, Shiva dance

As the planet rotates, round and round we go

Live and death and life again, a never ending show

As the planet rotates, a hundred billion times

Creatures are evolving to destiny divine

Dance Shiva dance, Dance Shiva dance

Dance, dance, Shiva dance

Dance Shiva dance, Dance Shiva dance

Dance, dance, Shiva dance

Dance, dance, Shiva dance

The Golden Thread

Subrata

There’s a Golden Thread

That ties us all together

There’s nobody left out

And that, I’m sure of

There’s a Golden Thread

That ties us all together

Oh my mind knows it as truth

And my heart feels it as love

There’s a Lord above

Who’s looking down upon us

He’s known since ancient times

And called different names

He’s our Father all

And we are his dear children

And no matter what we call Him

He will answer just the same

I am thinking right now

Of my brothers and sisters

The smile on their faces

Reflects a light divine

Though their customs and clothes

And their language is different

The light in their eyes is the same

Light as mine

There’s a Golden Thread

That ties us all together

There’s nobody left out

And that, I’m sure of

There’s a Golden Thread

That ties us all together

Oh my mind knows it as truth

And my heart feels it as love

There’s a Golden Thread

That ties us all together

There’s nobody left out

And that, I’m sure of

There’s a Golden Thread

That ties us all together

Oh my mind knows it as truth

And my heart feels it as love

The Golden Thread of Love

Peace

Subrata

Inspired by the Peace Chant Of the Upanishads

There is peace in the heavens

Peace in the sky

There is peace in the waters

The mountains on high

There is peace in the forest

Peace in the rain

There is peace in the desert

The valleys and plains

There is peace in the sunrise

Red yellow blue

There is peace in the flowers

All sprinkled with dew

There is peace in the evening

Peace in the stars

There is peace in the moonlight

The quietude ours

There is peace in God’s creatures

Peace in all life

Peace ‘neath the surface of struggle and strife

There is peace like lost treasure hidden below

Peace like a river of unending flow

There is peace for the asking

Shining within

Permeating my being

Beyond my mind’s ken

I find peace everywhere now

As life unfolds

Naught but peace I discover way down in my soul

I find peace, peace, peace

Brahman Alone Is Real

The young boy asked of the holy-man

The Truth to be revealed

The Master answered with tenderness

That Brahman alone is real

Maya has cast her spell

Why none can tell

Know this He said with zeal

That Brahman alone is real

My boy your search is a noble one

Your earnestness I feel

The Truth I tell you comes down to this

That Brahman alone is real

God’s grace can loose your ties

Open your eyes

Pray that you know and feel

That Brahman alone is real

To hear and reflect and to meditate on

This Truth that to most is concealed

Will carry you forward until you can see

That Brahman alone is real

And now my child I encourage you

To follow this ideal

By day and night you should contemplate

That Brahman alone is real

Brahman alone is real

Act think and feel

Live your whole life in this

That Brahman alone is real

Brahman alone is real

Act think and feel

Live your whole life in this

That Brahman alone is real

That Brahman alone is real

That Brahman alone is real

Refuge We Take At Your Feet

Subrata

Sri Ramakrishna, Sarada Devi

Knowledge and love complete

Sri Ramakrishna, Sarada Devi

Refuge we take at your feet.

Sri Ramakrishna, Sarada Devi

Father and Mother so sweet

Sri Ramakrishna, Sarada Devi

Refuge we take at your feet.

Throughout the years, laughter and tears

Let it be for you we smile or cry

Open our eyes, love of our lives

Let it be for you we live and die.

Sri Ramakrishna, Sarada Devi

Father and Mother so sweet

Sri Ramakrishna, Sarada Devi

Refuge we take at your feet,

Refuge we take at your feet,

Refuge we take at your feet.

No One But Me To Blame

Subrata

Adapted from Vivekananda’s Poem

VERSE 1

The sun goes down, it’s crimson rays

Light up the dying day;

A startled glance I throw behind

And count my triumph’s shame;

Each day my life, I make or mar,

Each deed begets it’s kind,

Good, good, bad, bad, the arrows fly

Too late to change their aim;

No one but me to blame.

No one but me to blame.

VERSE 2

I am my own embodied past

The will, the thought, to that conform

To that the outer frame;

Love comes reflected back as love,

Hate only breeds more hate,

They patiently await their time

Through life and death their claim;

No one but me to blame.

No one but me to blame.

BRIDGE

One only man

One only God,

One ever perfect soul

And dared to show the goal

To go beyond

Both life and death

Nirvana, joy untold

VERSE 3

I cast off fear and vain remorse

I feel my Karma’s sway,

I face the ghosts my deeds have raised

Joy, sorrow, censure, fame;

I give up hate, I give up love,

My thirst for life is gone;

Eternal peace of mind and heart,

Is all that now remain;

No one is left to blame

No one is left to blame

ENDING

No one is left to blame

No one is left …

To Arise, To Awake

Subrata

To arise, To awake

To press on, Through karma we make

Give us love, Give us light

By your pow’r, Oh Lord give us might

Down through the ages all saints and sages

Shine with your light divine

Throughout the lands you reach out your hands

That none should be left behind

May we learn, How to give

How to love, Oh Lord, how to live

Without fear, Without greed

In our hearts, Our thoughts, or our deeds

Between the banks of pleasure and pain life flows

The current sweeps us to and fro

Through all the good times and amidst the blows

A witness unaffected

Observes the show

Short Instrumental

We’re not flesh, We’re not bone

We’re not mind, Or anything known

What we are , Is just this

We are the children of immortal bliss

Down through the ages all saints and sages

Shine with your light divine

Throughout the lands you reach out your hands

That none should be left behind

To arise , To awake

Give us love Give us light

To arise, To awake

For the world, And our sake

Oh children of immortal bliss…..

Awake!

Song Of The Free

Subrata

Adapted from Swami Vivekananda’s Poem

The beauteous Earth, the glorious Sun

The calm sweet Moon the spangled sky

Causation’s laws do make them run

They live in bonds in bonds they die

Now know these are the outer crust

All space and time effect and cause

I am beyond all sense, all thought

The wit-ness of the Universe

Before the Sun, the Moon the Earth

Before the stars or comets free

Be-fore e’en time has had its birth

I was I am and I will be

No Angel  I,  Nor man nor brute

Nor body, mind, nor he nor she

The books do stop in wonder mute

To tell my nature I am He

Let eyes grow dim and heart grow faint

And friendship fail and love betray

Let fate its hundred horrors send

And clotted darkness block the way

All nature wear one angry frown

To crush you out still know my soul

You are divine, March on and on

Nor right nor left but to the goal

The Beauteous Earth, the glorious Sun

The calm sweet Moon the spangled sky

Causation’s laws do make them run

They live in bonds in bonds they die

From dreams awake, from bonds be free

Be not afraid this mystery

My shadow can not frighten me

Know once for all that I am He

Know once for all that I am He
